Alison Tickell established Julie\u2019s Bicycle in 2007 in the UK music industry as a non-profit mobilising action and inspiring new thinking in response to the climate and nature crisis, JB now works across arts and culture internationally and is acknowledged as a pioneer in the field, developing much of the foundational research, ideas and resources driving cultural change.<\/p>\n

Originally trained as a cellist, Alison\u2019s approach is rooted in her work with jazz improviser and teacher John Stevens, whose understanding of music and community activism created the foundational values that inspired Julie\u2019s Bicycle. Alison has been a relentless public advocate for culture-based climate action, advised and contributed to many initiatives in the field including: IFACCA, UNFCCC, G20 Culture, Creative Europe, European Parliament, national governments, networks, projects and funders. She is currently working with the Climate Heritage Network and Global Call for Culture-based Climate Action, co-chairs the Climate theme<\/a> for the UK Creative Industries Council, is on the European Heritage Hub Steering Committee, and is a life-long Ashoka Fellow<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Alison has contributed to several publications, including most recently to \u2018Museums and the Climate Crisis\u2019,<\/em> edited by Nick Merriman (Routledge 2023)<\/p>\n

Awards:<\/h2>\n

2023: <\/strong>Alison Tickell was awarded the The International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA)’s\u00a0inaugural Green Champion Award<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 a new award presented for achievement on sustainability in the industry.<\/span><\/p>\n

2019:\u00a0JB won the WOMEX 2019 Professional Excellence Award<\/span><\/a> for the: <\/span>\u2018rallying of artists and arts professionals from all over the world to speak and act in one powerful group\u2019.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

2019:<\/strong> Alison Tickell won a Tonic Award<\/a> for women in theatre and performing arts, for \u201ccommitment to increasing awareness of the performing arts\u2019 carbon footprint and implementing practical and imaginative changes to better the industry through her pioneering work for Julie\u2019s Bicycle”.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

2016:<\/strong> JB Founder and CEO, Alison Tickell, won <\/span>Campaigner of the Year at the MusicWeek Women in Music Awards<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

2016:<\/strong> JB received an \u2018Achievement Award\u2019 at the N.I.C.E Awards (European Centre for Creative Economy).<\/span><\/p>\n

2013:<\/strong> JB won the Central Green Gown Award.<\/p>\n
