On activism and speaking out as artists, catalysing climate action in the music industry on both sides of the pond, environmental justice, and breaking down silos (Ssega has a PhD in chemical engineering, while Eli has recently embarked on a masters degree in Climate Science and Policy).<\/p>\n Details:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Eli and Ssega will be in conversation with Julie’s Bicycle on Wednesday 13th January 2021, 16:30 – 17:30 GMT<\/strong><\/p>\n As half of DJ duo Soul Clap and a member of DJs For Climate Action, Eli is one of the loudest voices for change in dance\/electronic music. His 20-year DJ career began in the \u201990s US rave scene playing house and jungle as DJ Elyte, growing into E-Heavy \u201cThe Bamboozla\u201d, one of the first supporters of 2-step and grime in the US in the early 00\u2019s. Since then, Eli has teamed with Lonely C to form Soul Clap, featuring dancefloor explorations you\u2019ve come to expect from his vinyl heavy sets at Crew Love parties, Bamboozle BBQ Jam mixtape series, and eclectic Lot Radio show. Through it all, Eli\u2019s mission has been to share music that feels like the past, but sounds like the future \u2013 music that makes you move your body and feel something in your soul (usually positive vibrations, but sometimes other things too).<\/p>\n Love Ssega has carved a creative music career with that is vivid, artful, politically nuanced and astute. The founding frontman and songwriter of Clean Bandit left the band to complete his PhD in Laser Spectroscopy at Cambridge University, and has since then appeared at Edinburgh Festival for the award-winning Shadwell Opera, and his work has been performed by BBC Concert Orchestra and BBC Philharmonic. . He has also been commissioned by the Department for International Trade and Creative Europe\/European Union to create publicly-funded commissions. In 2018\/2019, he was the British Council and PRS Foundation\u2019s Musician in Residence for China.<\/p>\n Alongside mentoring for Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, Love Ssega was also invited by Brian Eno to join the soon-to-launch climate initiative EarthPercent.
