Julie’s Bicycle and Secretaria de Cultura (the Department of Culture, also known as Secult) of the Government of Pará, Brazil, have worked in partnership to create this guide.
The guide is a tool for event organisers, artists, producers, activists, cultural workers and educators and aims to support regenerative practices within the sector, reflecting and celebrating the uniqueness of the Amazon region. It demonstrates we can all achieve effective climate action by centring people and their cultural expression.
The guide will play a part in the sector’s efforts to strengthen culture’s role in building a sustainable and just planet in the lead up to COP30 which takes place in Belém, Brazil, in November 2025.
The guide:
- Connects climate and culture by outlining how deeply connected culture and the environment are in the Amazonian context
- Outlines questions and strategies to help organisations and artists get started on climate action
- Suggests practical actions across topics such as governance, programming and heritage, materials and supply chain, energy conservation, travel and transport, food and drink, measurement and evaluation, and communication and behaviour change.
