- Culture participation in cities is rebounding with 40% of residents visiting museums, 35% attending live music, and 46% attending other live performances.
- Culture infrastructure is recovering slowly with a small increase of 1% of theatres and 3.2% growth in live music venues after dramatic decline due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Amsterdam, 15 October 2025 – The leading global cities network, World Cities Culture Forum, today launches the 5th Edition of its flagship World Cities Culture Report at the World Cities Culture Summit in Amsterdam (15–17 October). Published every three years, the World Cities Culture Report is the world’s most comprehensive dataset on the role of culture in cities, widely used by policymakers, researchers, and media to track trends and inform policy.
Key findings show that culture is driving recovery and resilience at a time of global instability, with cities at the forefront of innovation and leadership. The Report identifies key trends in urban policy in global cities including cultural tourism, AI and creativity, climate action and the night-time economy.
JB Director Alison Tickell contributed a chapter on Cities Taking the Lead on Climate Action, exploring how culture can accelerate the transition to more sustainable, equitable, and resilient urban futures.
“Culture is the foundation of the city and society, so culture should be the foundation for urban climate action.”
— Alison Tickell, Director, Julie’s Bicycle
The Report is now available in a new digital format with an interactive Data Explorer tool to help policymakers, researchers, and cultural organisations explore city data more easily.
