EXHIBITION: VITAL SIGNS: Another World is Possible – Visit Science Gallery London at King’s College London (Guy’s Campus) for this exhibition which brings together artists, designers, and researchers to delve into the interconnections between the health of the natural world—from waterways to our atmosphere and ocean floors—and our own health and wellbeing. Dates: Open now until 17 May.
WORKSHOP: Climate Conversations with Larger Us – Join Larger Us for an interactive and engaging workshop series on “How to Have Conversations About Climate Change.” Whether you’re looking to start positive climate conversations in your community, with family, or with friends, these workshops offer a safe, supportive space. Dates: 21 November.
JOB: Digital Communications and Online Events Coordinator – Culture Declares Emergency (CDE) is seeking a creative Digital Communications and Online Events Coordinator to lead digital content and online events. This is a part-time, freelance role starting in January 2025 for six months, with potential extension. Deadline: 21 November.
EVENT: Explorers Conference 2024 – If you are from a Black, Asian, Arab, or other racially minoritised background, join a day at the Natural History Museum of inspiration, insight, and empowerment in environmental and climate justice. This conference will feature professionals from racially marginalised backgrounds sharing their career journeys and experiences, exploring pathways in environmental sciences, and offering workshops designed to support your own educational and career development. Date: 28 November.
EVENT: Explorers Symposium 2024 – An inspiring day at the Natural History Museum dedicated to careers in Earth, environmental, and ecological sciences. This event focuses on themes of equity, inclusivity, and social justice, featuring voices with lived experience, interdisciplinary expertise, and innovative approaches in science, education, environmental, and cultural sectors. Date: 29 November.
OPEN CALL: Art and Amnesty International – Artist/Activist Collaborations – Art Rights Truth and Amnesty International invite artists and activists to creatively respond to the report Under Protected and Over Restricted: The State of the Right to Protest in 21 European Countries. Selected projects will reimagine this content through innovative forms, including visual art, soundscapes, performance, or new narratives. Deadline: 30 November.
EVENT: Climate Change Network (online) – Solving the planet’s problems needs everyone’s input – and music groups can do more than they think! Join Making Music as they discuss some of the latest success stories from their member group’s who have implemented more sustainable practices into the ways they work. Deadline: 2 December.
CALL OUT: Collaborative Learning Initiative: Concept Touring – delivered by Caravan (UK) and ILT Festival (Denmark), part of JB’s ITER programme, supports England and Denmark-based performing artists in experimenting with low-carbon, international touring models. Ten selected artists or companies will each receive £650 to explore innovative presentation methods and foster cross-cultural connections without extensive travel. The programme includes five online sessions and a culminating hybrid seminar at the ILT Festival in May 2025. Applications close: 9 December.
SIGN UP: Our friends at Music Declares Emergency are celebrating their fifth birthday this month. Through their NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET campaign, they have helped reach over 550 million music fans with the support of over 4000 recording artists. To get involved and help the music sector to take urgent climate action, join their mailing list.
FUNDRAISING: Support the Vision: 2025 initiative in shaping the events industry’s 2030 climate strategy. This project aims to develop a comprehensive climate transition plan and secure government investment. Help raise £50k to match funds from Arts Council England, EarthPercent, Dixon Foundation, and Festival Republic.
SURVEY: International Travel Survey for Musicians — The Scottish Classical Sustainability Group is gathering insights from musicians about international touring. While crucial for cultural exchange, it’s also a major source of carbon emissions. We want to know how often you travel, what works, and what challenges you face. Open to musicians from all genres (classical, folk, jazz, pop, etc.).
LEARNING: BAFTA albert has launched a new academy for screen production – providing information on a range of training and courses depending on level of experience, role or objective. From interactive workshops and courses to specialist courses created in collaboration with leading industry bodies; ScreenSkills, the BFI and the Carbon Literacy Project.
SURVEY: Resilience: Adapting to Climate Change — This survey explores how festival and outdoor event organisers in the UK are impacted by extreme weather events. The study documents experiences beyond the usual adverse/severe weather plans and aims to develop a framework for assessing and addressing these challenges. The findings will contribute to a methodology that helps organisers prepare for and mitigate the effects of increasingly extreme weather. Open to festival and outdoor event organisers across the UK.
