Peer Sharing: Adapting with Nature
Are you working with nature to respond to the impacts of climate change? We are inviting creatives and organisations who would like to exchange insights, learnings and experiences to join our peer sharing session.
We’re keen to hear from organisations of all sizes and scopes – whether you’re a small-scale cultural entity, a local authority working with culture, or a larger organisation based in a physical space, your input is valuable to us. Bring something to share that you’ve tried or are trying – whether it’s worked or not! We’ll facilitate a discussion of shared learning and mutual inspiration.
Date: Wednesday September 25th 10am- 11.30am (online)
About this peer sharing session
Nature is a powerful ally when it comes to both mitigating climate change and adapting to its impacts. Implementing nature-based solutions thoughtfully can benefit both biodiversity and people. Many earth conscious creatives are leading the way by exploring ways to co-create with nature, treating it as an active collaborator.
This session brings together creatives working in partnership with nature to help their organisations and communities adapt to our rapidly changing climate. Through engaging in inspiring discussions and sharing insights we’ll delve into ways to fully embrace and engage with nature, helping us all to lead cleaner, healthier, and more adaptable lives.
What does nature and adaptation look like in practice?
Working with nature to adapt to climate change can take many forms. For example:
- Building a living green roof at your cultural venue to help reduce surface water runoff and flood risk.
- Working in collaboration with your local community to increase tree cover and shading to reduce the impact of extreme heat events.
- Working in partnership with your local authority and nature groups to understand priorities for nature and climate adaptation in your area and how you can contribute.
Register your interest
Spaces for this session are limited, and participants will be chosen through a selection process. We aim to feature a diverse range of adaptation approaches from across the sector, so selections will be based on your responses. If you’re interested in taking part, please register your interest by completing the expression of interest form by Thursday 12 September. We’ll respond to you by Friday 13 September with a meeting invite and further details.

Examples
To guide expressions of interest, here are some examples of nature and adaptation initiatives from the sector:
- Watch this video for a great example of nature adaptation in practice: Shifting Tides and Sea Change: Creative Coastal Conversations The Wheel and the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action.
- Depot Cinema, Lewes, UK: Depot created a rooftop habitat to support biodiversity and offer a home for wildlife amid the built environment. The roof is alive with local Chalk and Downland plant species that double up to provide heat and sound insulation and prevent excessive water run-off from the roof. Nesting holes have also been created to support visiting bird species. Read more here.
This session is part of our Leading Resilience programme and is one in a series of events.
Our peer sharing sessions aim to provide a platform for the cultural sector professionals to share experiences, reflect on what adaptation means in their own unique contexts, and consider how we can move towards a climate-change ready and resilient future.
This event is delivered in partnership with Arts Council England as part of their Environmental Programme.
